My role as Content Editor at Tate Liverpool involved shaping the way the gallery talks to its audience: through exhibitions and wider programming, and by conceiving and project-managing the editorial content relating to all interpretation and information.

My responsibilities included:

  • Producing Tate Liverpool’s season rationale for each set of exhibitions and writing the gallery’s seasonal e-flux bulletin.
  • Coordinating and delivering a coherent interpretation and information strategy for all copy relating to Tate Liverpool's programme.
  • Responsibilities for co-authoring, commissioning, editing and proof-reading the content of all forms of gallery-based interpretation materials, such as exhibition labels, captions, wall texts and leaflets, as well as multimedia content.
  • Project managing the writing and production of printed and digital copy conceived for dissemination outside the gallery spaces.
  • Contributing to research and understanding of visitor needs and responses to ensure the effectiveness of interpretation materials.
  • Working closely with the London-based convener: Interpretation, Interpretation Team and Curators: Digital Learning to contribute to new cross-site initiatives and best practice in interpretive materials Tate-wide.

  • Co-authored, commissioned, edited and co-ordinated the production of hundreds of articles, guides, exhibition catalogues and books, online and print. Including the catalogue NEWS FROM NOWHERE by Moon Kyungwon & Jeon Joonh.
  • Instigated and led the production of COMPASS, a seasonal in-house magazine for Tate Liverpool.
  • Part of the Exhibitions and Comms teams, and working with colleagues across the organisation.
  • Responsible for generating high quality and innovative interpretation in a range of different forms that helped diverse audiences engage with Tate’s busy and varied programme.
  • Strong copywriting skills with a keen eye for detail, coupled with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Worked effectively and confidently at all levels.
  • Substantial experience of writing and copy-editing in a range of media.
  • A passion for culture and museums and their educational role, with up-to-date knowledge of web technologies and how people use them.
  • Project management skills and ability to work collaboratively.
